Guest Coaching Session from Severn Roller Torrent

Our coaches work darn hard in sharing their derby wisdom and training us up to be the next Kamikaze Kittens (a girl can dream). So we thought we'd give them a break one Sunday. Guest coaching is a big thing in Roller Derby so we spread the word that we're a new league looking for some outsider training!

Enter Severn Roller Torrent. Four of their most formidable skaters travelled down to us all the way from Gloucester one April Sunday to cram as much derby into our two hour training slot as possible!

First an intense thirty minute endurance drill. After catching our breath it was onto an hour of pack work and blocking skills. Lastly, thirty minutes working on jammer techniques. After all this we were ready for a good s-t-r-e-t-c-h and said our goodbyes. We were so worn out we didn't even remember to take any pictures! Any excuse to invite the girls back again!

Thanks to Miss Havislam, Jedi Mistress, Voodoo Ray for coming down :D

BATH ROLLER DERBY GIRLS OPEN NIGHT

After an advertising push and a lot of persuading friends to come along, we turned up at the Cheese and Grain on Tuesday evening with high hopes. We had forms, stickers, badges and spare kit all ready to go.

By 8pm we had 16 new faces who, after filling in a few forms, got kitted up and had the chance to try out some skating. The current BRDG’s did a short demo followed by a brief welcome and derby intro chat before helping people with their skating and teaching them a few derby skills.

Everyone enjoyed being put through their paces – trying out some knee slids, ploughs and sticky skating. There was lots of laugher and fun had by all.

We concluded by going for a drink at the pub. Was great to see all the newbies and can’t wait to see you on Sunday at Corsham.

Indoor Training Sessions with Bath Roller Derby Girls!

Up until now, we've been training Spartan-style in the open air at Green Park Station - but the near Arctic conditions we've had in recent weeks have have forced even our most stoic roller derby warriors to admit it's time to seek out some shelter until Spring!

We're very pleased to announce that we'll now be running indoor training sessions at The Cheese & Grain, in Frome. Four walls! A roof! A decent floor! No pervy skateboarders staring at our bums while we stretch out! It's like we've wandered into a dream...

The next sessions (all 7.30 - 9.30pm) are scheduled for Wednesday 5th December and Tuesday 18th December - then we'll take a break until January 5th. It's just £5 for two hours of skate-based fun. As ever, everyone is very welcome. We can probably help with lifts from Bath if you have no transport and we might even have a bit of spare kit if you don't have your own yet :)
